STILL LIFE WITH KIWI FRUIT

Oil on canvas, 30 X 30 cm, framed in white frame size 32 X 32 cm. It was painted in 1995 after coming to New Zealand. In 1993 I had a phase when I was doing still life paintings. Each one was more detailed. I preferred to stage them in my studio. Last piece had only one piece which was imaginary, kiwi fruit, which symbolized New Zealand for me. When I arrived in New Zealand I made this painting as a symbol of achieved goal, coming to New Zealand. It has paua shell, and Maori carving with the painting with floating kiwi fruits in the background sitting on the easel. Style of paintings I started painting in Sri Lanka.
