Some paintings arrive quietly, others are born through unexpected events.

When I first painted City of Light, I imagined a distant city glowing on the horizon beneath a deep red sky. It felt like a promise of something luminous beyond the chaos of the landscape.

While photographing the painting, the canvas suddenly slipped and fell. The paint in the centre — the very heart of the city — smudged. My first reaction was frustration. I carefully repainted the city, trying to restore the original vision, but the painting felt incomplete.

So I left it for a while.

When the paint dried, I returned to the canvas and realised the accident had opened a new possibility. Instead of rebuilding the city exactly as it was, I placed it inside a glowing orb, as if the city itself had become a world suspended in light.

In that moment the painting found its true form.

What began as a mistake became its meaning.
