NEMESH ART AWARD

“Welcome to ‘Prayer for Peace,’ an exhibition born from a deeply personal journey through the tumultuous landscapes of conflict and compassion. As an artist hailing from the war-torn region of former Yugoslavia, the echoes of strife resonate profoundly within my soul. The inaugural piece, ‘Prayer for Peace,’ was conceived amidst the escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine in February 2022—a poignant reflection of my solidarity with those ensnared in the clutches of aggression.
Today, as we stand two years hence, the shadows of unrest loom larger still, casting their pall over new theaters of conflict, including the harrowing struggles in Israel and Gaza. These trials remind us that the specter of war knows no borders; its tendrils reach into the very fabric of our collective consciousness, leaving indelible marks upon us all.
Yet, amid the chaos and clamor, there persists a beacon of hope—a fervent belief in the transformative power of positivity and peace. This exhibition serves as a testament to that enduring spirit, a testament to the unwavering resolve to infuse our world with light amidst the darkness.
Each brushstroke, each canvas, is a silent invocation—a prayer—for a world untethered from the shackles of conflict. Through art, we strive to transcend the barriers that divide us, to forge connections that defy the tumult of the times.
‘Prayer for Peace’ is not merely a collection of artworks; it is a resounding call to action—a call to harness the boundless potential of human creativity in service of a greater good. May this exhibition kindle within each visitor a flame of hope, igniting a collective resolve to pave a path towards a more peaceful tomorrow.”

We all want to believe that there are reasons behind everything we do. We accept, struggle to understand or dismiss the ideas that there are higher powers at play in our existence, and whether or not they are able to intervene in our lives or are merely a product of our imaginations.
Humanity has always looked for some sort of support in our greatest hours of need. And our greatest hour of need is often on the edge of the unknown- what happens next, where do we go from here, and why is this happening. Perhaps it is extreme danger, or death which triggers our dormant hopes for some kind of salvation or support- regardless of whether it is consciously believed in or wholly imagined.
Divine illusion conveys a duality of man and myth, reality against fantasy and faith coupled with reason and how they can exist in one’s mind whether as real or illusionary.
The figures, lighting and poses are left as ambiguous as possible to allow the viewer to reflect on the painting as a whole to determine for themselves if the intervention is divine, or an illusion which is instead illustrating the love and respect we have for others in times of need.
