Metallica: Patina and Gold

This work explores transformation, tension, and resilience through layered materiality and gestural movement. Set on an unconventional octagonal canvas, the composition evokes both alchemical process and geological time—surfaces appear worn, oxidised, and burnished, as if shaped by elemental forces rather than the hand alone.
Muted metallic golds and earthen tones form a weathered ground, over which sweeping arcs of violet and flashes of molten orange pulse with energy. These marks feel simultaneously controlled and instinctive, suggesting a dialogue between structure and spontaneity. The paint is allowed to pool, scrape, and resist, creating a tactile surface that invites close inspection.
Belonging to the Metallica series, this work reflects on decay and renewal—how beauty emerges through corrosion, pressure, and endurance. The metallic patina becomes a metaphor for lived experience: scarred, luminous, and quietly powerful.
